First Impressions:

Maybelline SuperStay Matte Ink comes in a sturdy plastic packaging with some weight to it. The wand is pretty stiff and hard. I didn’t like it at first, but it eventually grew on me. The applicator enabled me to create precise line on the edge of my lips. I am someone who prefers to outline my lips, so the wand comes in handy. The liquid lipstick has a scent, which I don’t mind since it doesn’t smell pungent or stinky. The first time I tried it on, I was glad I only bought one shade.

It felt so sticky when freshly applied, but I realised the stickiness eventually wore off over time and it started to feel pretty comfortable on the lips. It sets down totally matte with a little shine to the finish. Yes, it’s 100% transfer-proof but you have to let it dry down completely (it doesn’t take long) before touching your lips or pressing them together. Personally, I don’t find the formula to be drying but it also depends on how you prep your lips, or whether you have dry lips or not. My lips were not chapped when I tried on this liquid lipstick.

Textures/Pigmentation:

The Maybelline SuperStay Matte Ink feels creamy and glides on the lips pretty effortlessly. The shades I owned are very opaque and not patchy at all, but I realised some of the darker shades are quite patchy after swatching them on my hand. The colour payoffs are amazing. One swipe is enough to cover the whole lips. Bear in mind that I have darker/pigmented lips.

Longevity:

I am convinced that this liquid lipstick will stay on, even in the storm. Honestly, I am very impressed with its staying power. It stays on my lips as I was feasting on hot noodle soup, satay, spaghetti carbonara, meatballs, and even rice. Most liquid lipsticks tend to wear off quickly because they’ll either rub off on my fingers or the cutlery. For Maybelline SuperStay Matte Ink, it only faded on the inner lips. I just need to reapply and I’m all good. I’m very happy on how it reapplies on the lips too. Many lipsticks would become patchy or crack when I try to reapply, but this one doesn’t.

Overall:

It’s been ages since the last time I fell in love with a lip product. I love wearing lipsticks and it’s one of my makeup must-haves. However, it gets annoying when the lipstick starts to smudge and wear off whenever I eat or drink. Some of them aren’t transfer-proof. When I tested the Maybelline SuperStay Matte Ink, it was purely because I love the shade Ruler. It was often sold out, so when this shade was available again, I quickly grabbed it. From one to two, and now I have nine shades in my collection.

I love the formula very much. No more worrying about whether I still have lipstick on after eating. Trust me, this will not budge! Even if it does (it happens when I dab my lips with tissue), the colour wears off nicely and reapplying is fuss-free. If you think that this liquid lipstick feels heavy on the lips, avoid applying it several times on the same spot. As it is very pigmented, one swipe is good enough.

Tips:

I often get asked about how I remove this liquid lipstick, as some of you mentioned that it’s hard to take it off.

  • Use cleansing oil or balm.
  • Got micellar water only? Pour some on a cotton pad and press it on your lips for a few seconds before gently wiping it off.
  • Use lip balm or lip gloss. Apply some on your lips and press your lips together to melt off the liquid lipstick, then wipe it off with tissue.
