We all have those days when skincare routine feels like a chore, a task we have to drag ourselves to get it over and done with. Whether it’s a hormonal sluggish day when you just want to do nothing, or you just get home from a long eventful day at work and you have zero energy left, or simply just a day you don’t feel so well; we’ve all had them. And we end up skipping our routines and wake up with two giant zits and cry ourselves a river. Lol!
Well we’re so lucky to live in a time when there are one thousand and one skincare products available, and some are made for those moments I’ve described above. Well I’d love to share with you the products I often reach out for on those lazy or sick days. Note that there might be other products that may be better than these, but I am only confident to share what I have personally used and not just read or heard about. By the way I have an oily-combination skin and my skin concerns are pores, SF (sebaceous filaments), blackheads, and sometimes whiteheads so you might want to bear YMMV in mind. And oh, I am not gonna write a lengthy detailed review on these products ‘cause you may already know, and you can just google it so I’m just gonna explain why they are my lazy or sick days saviour.
- Laneige Water Sleeping Mask
This has something of a cult status, with so many people raving about how wonderful it is and I guess this is one of the products that has made Laneige a big name in K Beauty world. It’s one of the earliest (is it the earliest?) sleeping mask to hit the beauty market. I bought this when it started getting famous, and I’m so glad I did! This one is numero uno for my lazy days because it provides intense hydration to my skin and I can never go wrong with it. On the laziest days I would just remove my makeup, cleanse my face, put on toner (but sometimes I skip this) and just straightaway slather it all over my face. It doesn’t take long to absorb so I can go straight to bed. I wouldn’t have to worry about it clogging my pores because it is so lightweight and it has never broke me out, instead it keeps my skin moisturized and supple.
2. Cosrx Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence
I love this one for the same reason I love Laneige Water Sleeping Mask: hydration, but for the AM. My routine for lazy mornings would be cleansing my face, putting on either toner or just spraying facial mist and then tapping in this snail mucin into my skin and go straight to sunscreen. Usually it keeps my skin hydrated and not tight. I know, I am supposed to lock it in with a moisturizer or an emulsion but hey, we’re talking about lazy days here, remember? Besides, Charlotte Cho also says this regarding the Cosrx Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence: “Could you skip the moisturizer if you feel like you’ve reached optimal hydration levels specific to your skin condition? Yes!” (on Soko Glam, April 15 2018).

3. Hada Labo Super Hyaluronic Acid Hydrating Lotion (Light)
Now that I have talked about PM hydration and AM hydration, this one hydrating product goes both AM and PM for me. I started using this one on a trip to Melaka from JB for a relative’s wedding and on the way back, we had to stop and spend the night mid-journey because my husband wasn’t feeling so well. I was lucky I always carry small individual packs of makeup removing wipes Other than grabbing an extra pack of diapers for my son, I also managed to get me a small sized cleanser at a drugstore and a small sized of this Hada Labo Hydrating Lotion (Light). For that night I only used this one after cleansing my face, I put on two layers of it and woke up with no irritation and a moderately moisturized face. From that moment on, other than incorporating it into my usual five-step or seven-step or ten-step routines, I also opt for this lotion on my worst of the worst days; only cleansing and patting this lotion in. Such a saviour!
4. Laneige Cream Skin Refiner
This baby is the latest addition in my stash and I can see myself reaching out for this one on my future lazy/sick days. This one is hyped for being a hybrid toner-moisturiser, having a lightweight texture of a toner with a moisturizing power of a cream. I love using this as part of my midday routine, usually after sheetmasking. Just layer this and I’m good till the evening. On my future lazy/sick days, I think I would use this in the PM routine because layering this in the morning can make my skin a tad bit greasy in the afternoon.
If you notice, these are my go-to due to their hydrating power. Yes, on sick/lazy days I would like to play safe and avoid using exfoliating products or actives and just stick to basic: cleansing and providing hydration. So far this year I have never slept without removing my makeup or sunscreen. I would never take that risk, though!
