If there is one item that always has to be in my handbag, it definitely would be lip balm. I am a fan of liquid lipsticks and lip velvets with matte finishes but they definitely are drying. In addition to that, I sleep and work in an air-conditioned room so, without lip balms, my lips would be chapped and cracked. Well here are the four lip balms I have tried in 2019 and I would love to share with you what I honestly think of them.
LipIce Tinted Lip Balm SPF15 [Disney Edition]
I got this one in the shade Wildberry that is a berry red shade and I love that it has UV filters so my lips are protected from the sun. I also got it as it is a cute Disney Edition hehe.
Hydrogenated Polyisobutene, Limnanthes Alba (Meadowfoam) Seed Oil, Bis-Diglyceryl Polyacyladipate-2, Diisostearyl Malate, Octyldodecanol, Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate, Phenyl Trimethicone, Dimer Dilinoleyl Dimer Dilinoleate, Ozokerite, Polyethylene, Ceresin, Hydrogenated Castor Oil Dimer Dilinoleate, Euphorbia Cerifera (Candelilla) Wax, Flavor, Butyl Methoxydibenzoylmethane, Hydrogenated Ethylhexyl Olivate / Hydrogenated Olive Oil Unsaponifiables, Argania Spinosa Kernel Oil, Calcium Titanium Borosilicate / Tin Oxide / Titanium Dioxide, Silica Dimethyl Silylate, Titanium Dioxide, Red 7 Lake ( CI 15850 ), Calcium Titanium Borosilicate / Tin Oxide / Titanium Dioxide, Red 6 Lake (CI 15850:2), Pentaerythrityl Tetra-di-t-Butyl Hydroxyhydrocinnamate, Tocopheryl Acetate, Sodium Acetylated Hyaluronate, Hydrolyzed Collagen
As you can see it is alcohol free, packed with hydrating and moisturising ingredients which are Sodium Acetylated Hyaluronate, Hydrolyzed Collagen, Hydrogenated Polyisobutene, Limnanthes Alba (Meadowfoam) Seed Oil, Bis-Diglyceryl Polyacyladipate-2, Diisostearyl Malate, Octyldodecanol, Phenyl Trimethicone, Dimer Dilinoleyl Dimer Dilinoleate, Hydrogenated Ethylhexyl Olivate, Hydrogenated Olive Oil Unsaponifiables, Argania Spinosa Kernel Oil, Silica Dimethyl Silylate and Hydrolyzed Collagen.
There are also Argania Spinosa Kernel Oil and Tocopheryl Acetate as antioxidants, and the UV filters used are Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate, Butyl Methoxydibenzoylmethane, which are chemical filters and Titanium Dioxide which is a physical filter.
Texture & Smell
It smells good! It’s a sweet smell that is not really a berry smell but I couldn’t pinpoint what it is. It is a sweet but not overpowering kind of smell and it lingers. The texture is waxy, it glides softly and really really smoothly, like silk!
I love how hydrating this one is. The moisturising power stays long and I only needed to touch up after 3 to 4 hours in an air-conditioned office. It also gives a hint of color, a berry pink colour that enhances my natural lip color. I thought the colour is red but on my lips it shows up more pink than red. This is great under lipstick and over lipstick for a touch-up. I also love that it is so affordable. I bought this on Hermo twice during sale (I forgot how much it was during sale) but as of now, it is RM12.70

Neutrogena Lip Moisturiser 4g
Octinoxate 7.5%, Oxybenzone 4%, Castor (Ricinus Communis) Seed Oil, Corn (Zea Mays) Oil, Ozokerite, Petrolatum, Beeswax, Ethylhexyl Palmitate, Paraffin, Stearyl Alcohol, Carnauba (Copernica Cerifera) Wax, BHT
Look at how short the ingredients list are! I love this no frill, minimal ingredient list that only focus on being a sunscreen and a moisturiser for the lips. The UV filters used in this lip balm are chemical type which are Octinoxate (7.5%) and Oxybenzone (4%). As you can see they are both active ingredients and really help protect the lips skin from harsh UV rays. The moisturising agents are Castor (Ricinus Communis) Seed Oil, Petrolatum, Beeswax, Ethylhexyl Palmitate, Stearyl Alcohol and Carnauba (Copernica Cerifera) Wax that really help seal the moisture in. It also free from alcohol, fragrance and essential oil that I really really like!
Texture & Smell
This one is not as silky smooth as the previous Lip Ice lip balm one, this feels more solid and has no smell. It is smooth but not as smooth as the Lip Ice ones.
If you love your lip balms to be simple with no unnecessary ingredients or add-ons, this one is the perfect choice. It stands true to its name; a lip moisturiser with SPF. It does its job moisturising my lips brilliantly and protecting my lips with an active SPF ingredients. This has always been my go to when I am outdoor and it stays nicely under makeup. As for over makeup it can smudge my lip creams a bit but for that purpose I have my Lip Ice to do the job.

Lip Ice Magic Color
It comes with three variants which are strawberry, no-fragrance, and pink mixberry and this one I have is a strawberry one. I apologise for the old looking picture but I gotta be honest with you and show it as it truly is: old and used up. I will explain more on this but let’s look at the ingredients first:
Macadamia Ternifolia Seed Oil, Limnanthes Alba (Meadowfoam) Seed Oil, Beeswax, Synthetic Candelilla Wax,Microcrystalline Wax, Argania Spinosa Kernel Oil, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter), Copernicia Cerifera (Carnauba) Wax , Phytosteryl / Octyldodecyl Lauroyl Glutamate, Caprylic / Capric Triglyceride, Red 27, Commiphora Mukul Resin Extract, Tocopheryl Acetate, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Mineral Oil, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract.
I love that this one has aloe leaf extract which is a soothing ingredient that my skin loves. It also has a lot of moisturising ingredients other than the aloe leaf extract which are Macadamia Ternifolia Seed Oil, Limnanthes Alba (Meadowfoam) Seed Oil, Beeswax, Synthetic Candelilla Wax, Argania Spinosa Kernel Oil, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter), Copernicia Cerifera (Carnauba) Wax, Phytosteryl/Octyldodecyl Lauroyl Glutamate, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil and Mineral Oil.
Texture and Smell
This one is perhaps the smoothest one of all four that glides on like silk. It also makes my lips turn to a pink colour that looks natural which I really love. Well as the variant says, this one smells sweet like a strawberry candy!
I love to use this on my lazy days at home. I love that it gives a hint of colour that looks so natural too, apart from smelling so nice. This used to be my most favourite before I found the Neutrogena one, because I find that this one finishes quite quickly compared to others, which I think is due to its texture that is less solid than others. It is RM17.20 on Hermo.

Mentholatum Premium Rich Moist Natural Honey
Paraffin, Squalane, Petrolatum, Mineral Oil, Diisostearyl malate, Hydrogenated polyisobutene, Ethylhexyl methoxycinnamate, Butyrospermum Parkii, Polyethylene, Dipentaerythrityl hexahydroxystearate, Dipropylene glycol, Microcrystalline Wax, Polyglyceryl-4 oleate, Polyglyceryl-2 triisostearate, Persea gratissima oil, Olea Europaea Fruit Oil, Macadamia Ternifolia Seed Oil, Simmondsia Chinensis Seed Oil, Octyldodecanol, Cholesterol, Argania spinosa Kernel Oil, Tocopheryl Acetate, Euphorbia Cerifera Wax. Hydrogenated lecithin, Synthetic wax, Iron Oxides, Glycine Soja Sterols, Water, Honey, Ceramide, Tocopherol, Isopropyl titanium triisostearate, Butylene Glycol, Royal Jelly Extract
Just like the other two lip balms, this also has UV filter that protects from UVA and UVB. This one has natural honey and royal jelly extract which are very very moisturising, with the addition of ceramide among other moisturising agents so this is a type of lip balm that really focuses on hydration and moisturising.
Texture and Smell
The texture feels ‘waxy’ and my oh my, I couldn’t really stand the smell. It smells of honey but to me it is quite strong. However, the texture feels the most moisturising among all four.
To be honest I would really really love it if not for the smell. So I would only reach for this one when my lips are really really dry and in need of an SOS care, thanks to the chockfull of moisturising ingredients. I got this as part of the Beauty Grab on Hermo so it was really a value buy!
My Rating: 4/5
Hope this could benefit you if you’re looking for a lip balm. The lip balms that I would repurchase in 2020 would be the Neutrogena one.
I would love to try more lip balms and share with you here!
