Shiseido ANESSA Perfect UV Sunscreen Gel SPF50+ PA++++ & Perfect BB Base Beauty Booster SPF50+ PA++++ | Review

Aside of wearing long-lasting base makeup products that are mostly designed to stay on skin all day long everyday, I love to indulge myself in using number of different sunscreens just for the fun of it while not compromising my needs of strong UV protection. In the morning, I would prefer to apply tone-up sunscreens while for my midday skincare routine, I love wearing colourless chemical sunscreen before topping it off with my usual compact powder.

What I look for in my choice of sunscreen is mostly smooth in texture, semi-matte finishes but most importantly, no less than SPF45 or PA+++ because of our lovely hot weather. Such a great discovery for me when I got these sunscreens from one of Shiseido’s brands called ANESSA which I admit I have been eyeing to get beginning last year. I finally understand the whole rave upon these star products in our local skincare community; one of them was actually a winner of @cosme The Best Cosmetic Awards, as these two have now become my personal favourites.

What’s Interesting about this Sunscreen?

Formulated with Shiseido’s Aqua Booster Technology, this sunscreen provides slightly dewy, smooth texture with refreshing and hydrating finishes on my skin.

While this sunscreen is water resistant, it can also be used as makeup primer. Applied on its own, it can be removed easily using my favourite facial cleanser or body wash if I were to apply on my arms and legs.

How to Use:

  1. Apply an adequate amount on the face and neck at the final stage of skincare.
  2. Apply generously 15 minutes before sun exposure (or makeup).

Capacity: 90g – About 5 to 6 months of daily applications.

Water, Alcohol, Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate, Dimethicone, Diisopropyl Sebacate, Ethylhexyl Triazone, Bis-Ethylhexyloxyphenol Methoxyphenyl Triazine, Diethylamino Hydroxybenzoyl Hexyl Benzoate, HDI/Trimethylol Hexyllactone Crosspolymer, Titanium Dioxide, Glycerin, Benzophenone-3, Caprylyl Methicone, Acrylates/ Methoxy PEG-90 Methacrylate Crosspolymer, PPG-17, Phenoxyethanol, Dextrin Palmitate / Ethyl – hexanoate, Dextrin Palmitate, Hydrated Silica, Triethoxycaprylylsilane, Carbomer, Agar, PEG / PPG-14/7, Dimethyl Ether, Xanthan Gum, Potassium Hydroxide, Acrylates / C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Lauryl Betaine, Fragrance, Silica, Distearyldimonium Chloride, Butylene Glycol, Stearic Acid, BHT, Camellia Sinensis Extract, Sodium Benzoate, Prunus Speciosa Leaf Extract, Rosa Canina Fruit Extract, Sodium Acetylated Hyaluronate, Potentilla Erecta Root Extract, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract, Soluble Collagen.

The sunscreen comes in a plastic packet  like that with Japanese wordings all over it but not to worry because there is ample product information printed at the back of the packet in English!

The Manufacturing Date is printed at the lower part of the back in DD/MM/YYY (Day/Month/Year) format one the official distributor sticker.

As shown above, the sunscreen comes with a simple screw cap with a small tube-end for easy product dispense and there’s whole (I’m assuming) product descriptions printed at the back of the tube although in Japanese.

If you look closely at the top of the tube, there is the product Batch Code – 8212JB embossed which translates to 31 July 2018 via Cosmetic Batch Code around the Internet which also close to what has been stated on the official distributor sticker above.

The sunscreen comes in that almost opaque white and gel-like cream but once spread even on skin, there is only the slightest white cast visible on skin.

The texture is lightweight so it is easy to spread on skin whether you’re using fingers or air puff like me. I would say that the scent is quite subtle and doesn’t bother me at all.

While most days I would be wearing cushion foundations with high SPF and broad spectrum for both even look and protection at the same time, this sunscreen from ANESSA is therefore perfect for my no-makeup makeup days. I would be applying this product to seal my morning skincare routine, apply loose translucent powder on top and with arched brows and lip balms, I’m ready to go.

For those of you who needs a little bit of colour to even out your skin tone i.e. BB creams that seems lesser in today’s market compared to 5 years ago then this lovely number from the brand might interest you.

What you need to know?

This high SPF contains numbers of UV filter that gives broad spectrum of protection and thanks to Shiseido’s Beauty Booster Technology, the product supposedly makes the skin to appear nicely still even when exposed to sweat or water.

How to Use:

  1. Apply an adequate amount on the face and neck at the final stage of skincare.
  2. Apply generously at least 15 minutes before sun exposure (or makeup).
  3. Reapply frequently to maintain protection especially after sweating, swimming or wiping your skin off with towels.

Capacity: 25ml – about 15 to 20 uses for me.

Dimethicone, Alcohol, Zinc Oxide, Methyl Methacrylate Crosspolymer, Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate, Titanium Dioxide, Diisopropyl Sebacate, Caprylyl Methicone, Butylene Glycol, Octocrylene, HDI/Trimethylol Hexyllactone Crosspolymer, Dextrin Palmitate, Silica, Trifluoropropyldimethyl / Trimethylsiloxysilicate, Diethylamino Hydroxybenzoyl Hexyl Benzoate, Petrolatum, Isododecane, PEG-9 Polydimethylsiloxyethyl Dimethicone, Bis-Ethylhexyloxyphenol Methoxyphenyl Triazine, PEG/PPG-14/7 Dimethyl Ether, Sodium Acetylated Hyaluronate, PPG-17, Aluminum Hydroxide, Isostearic Acid, Disteardimonium Hectorite, Stearic Acid, Trisodium Edta, Lithium Magnesium Sodium Silicate, Tetra Hydro Tetra Methyl Cyclotetrasiloxane, BHT, Tocopherol, Tetradecene, Glycerin, Sodium Metabisulfite, Fragrance, Iron Oxides, Mica.

*Please refer to the ingredients list on the product packaging for the most accurate list of ingredients.

As you can see, the 25ml worth of product comes in that small bottle in neon green which is convenient for me as it is very quick to be spotted in among other million things in my bag.

I haven’t actually seen this product in stores so I’m not sure whether that box is how it comes originally and I’m assuming not because I’ve seen different packaging on the brand official website here.

But there is the Manufacturing Date printed at the back of the box in DD/MM/YYY (Day/Month/Year) format one the official distributor sticker.

As shown above, this chemical sunscreen comes with a simple screw cap with a small tube-end for easy product dispense and there’s whole (I’m assuming) product descriptions printed at the back of the tube although in Japanese. I noticed there is a shade assigned to this which is Light; as general reference, MAC NW15 to NW25.

There is the product Batch Code – 8233EN printed at the bottom of the bottle which translates to 21 August 2018 via Cosmetic Batch Code around the Internet.

I would say a little amount of this product goes a long way because it does look concentrated to me although I still suggest for you to apply sunscreen rather generously.

Even with considerably lighter shade, the product goes on nicely even on my medium skin.

Combination of Hyaluronic Acid and glycerin gives this sunscreen a smooth and airy finish on skin.

Shiseido ANESSA Perfect UV Sunscreen Skincare Gel SPF50+ PA++++

  • This product being formulated with 50% of its ingredients consisting of skincare ingredients is very much interesting to me because I do appreciate the Hyaluronic Acid along with Rose Fruit Extract (to improve skin tone), Tormentil Root extract (great for toning down my redness), Green Tea Leaf Extract and the brand’s signature Cherry Blossom Leaf Extract known to help brightening up the skin tone are being infused with the sunscreen ingredients.
  • While I found the lightweight yet hydrating finishes of this chemical sunscreen very much appealing for daily activities, I love the part that I can also use this sunscreen underneath my low SPF foundations. The slightly tacky consistency of the sunscreen before drying down to semi-matte finish allows the foundation to glide on easily and with little blending effort, the base makeup stays on well.

Shiseido ANESSA Perfect BB Base Beauty Booster SPF50+ PA++++

  • While this product is being marketed for those who needs makeup base for outdoor activities involving vigorous workouts under the sun, I simply obsessed with it due the the fact that this works well in our hot and humid Malaysian weather
  • Although it is slightly tinted with light beige colour, my overall medium complexion still looks nice, even and fresh whether I’m outside exposed to all kinds of dust and pollutants or simply doing work in the office all day long.
  • Even though this comes in a small amount in a single bottle, you can always mix this with the Perfect UV Sunscreen Skincare Gel sister for a tone-up effect while maintaining the strong UV protection.

Overall, I give  both of these sunscreens 5/5. I’m absolutely obsessed with applying and reapplying them throughout the day and they just works well with my normal to oily skin. These products don’t sensitise nor irritate my sensitive facial area. Whether these are used together or on its own or even layered underneath my makeup bases, they both work greatly still.

I also find it very appealing that the star product of ANESSA, the Perfect UV Sunscreen Gel is actually available in a regular size of 32g and also that jumbo size of 90g; as it can be applied not only on facial area but also the rest of your exposed body.
