Since I’ve become a mother, foundation is not something that I use daily as my go-to item. Most days I am comfortable with no makeup except for my brows and my lips. For days when I need to look presentable to meet people for meetings, I tend to choose cushions for it is quick and easy. As for foundation, it is something that I would reach for when I have events or special occasions where I need to look dolled up and extra glam than usual.
For those moments, such as Hari Raya or Eid (well since Hari Raya is near, I think it is fitting for me to share my choice of foundation for the special day), I need to make sure my makeup lasts, stays on the skin nicely, and not get cakey or cracked. What more being a mother, having to talk to guests and relatives, serving them food and at the same time having to tend to my sun running here and there, feeding him and more.
Etude House Double Lasting Foundation is nothing new in the beauty market, with it having the great reputation as being the dupe for Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation. Let us first look at the ingredients shall we?
Water, Cyclopentasiloxane, Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate, Methyl Trimethicone, Cyclohexasiloxane, Butylene Glycol, Alcohol, Methyl Methacrylate Crosspolymer, Lauryl PEG-9 Polydimethylsiloxyethyl Dimethicone, Trimethylsiloxysilicate, Phenyl Trimethicone, PEG-10 Dimethicone, Zinc Oxide, Isododecane, Titanium Dioxide, Acrylates/Polytrimethylsiloxymethacrylate Copolymer, Disodium EDTA, Disteardimonium Hectorite, Sodium Chloride, Stearic Acid, Silica, Adenosine, Acrylates/Ethylhexyl Acrylate/Dimethicone Methacrylate Copolymer, Aluminum Hydroxide, Hdi/Trimethylol Hexyllactone Crosspolymer, Ethylhexylglycerin, Caprylyl Glycol, Triethoxycaprylylsilane, Polysorbate 80, Polypropylsilsesquioxane, Hydrogenated Lecithin, Titanium Dioxide (Ci 77891), Iron Oxides (Ci 77492),Iron Oxides (Ciz 7491),Iron Oxides (Ci 77499), Fragrance
This foundation contains SPF42 PA++ sunscreens which are Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate (chemical sunscreen), Zinc Oxide (physical sunscreen), and Titanium Dioxide (also physical sunscreen). It also contains adenosine, one of my favourite barrier-repair ingredients, and emollients (skin-smoothing ingredients) such as Cyclopentasiloxane, Cyclohexasiloxane, Trimethylsiloxysilicate, Phenyl Trimethicone, Isododecane, Stearic Acid, Aluminum Hydroxide, Caprylyl Glycol, and Hydrogenated Lecithin. By the way, this foundation has alcohol and added fragrance.
The 30g frosted glass bottle feels luxurious sturdy and I love the matte feels of the surface.
Pump type packaging is one of my favourite packaging type as it is definitely hygienic, fuss-free, and secure as the product is not exposed to air. The pump dispenses a sufficient amount; not too little yet not too much. One pump:
This edition has five shades which are:
Mine is the Y03 Ivory one. It looks really much fairer on my hand but on my face it looks just nice; Only slightly fairer which I like it to be.
According to Etude House, these various personalized shades are created based on global color professionalists’ consultation, designed to flaunt natural skin tone. I love how they have pink base, neutral base, and yellow base because I think a lot of Korean skintone has pink undertone while Asians like Malaysians and Indonesians have a more yellow undertone.
Smell, Texture and Finish
As I’ve mentioned above, this has added fragrance and it smells floral and a bit powdery, which reminds me of their Face Blur primers. The texture is not that thick, it is creamy and feels kinda watery (but not runny or anything). Remember to shake well before pumping it out.
It spreads nicely and blends quite well.
This is how it looks like spread out, so really, a little goes a long way with this one.
The finish is not completely matte and not dewy either, but rather semi-matte.
(Halfway blended with finger)
(Fully blended with beauty blender)
It dries quickly so if you are using sponges or beauty blender like me you might want to dab the sponge quickly and build the product slowly as in use it in a small amount first, and then adding it up.
(Spread out, halfway blended with finger)
On my hand it looks like it settles in fine lines but I don’t see that happening on my face. It could be because I have my Face Blur primer on. I never skip primer whenever I am using any type of foundation. The finish doesn’t look or feel heavy at all. It looks “thin” and natural and of course, a little goes a long way so remember to work in small amount and build it up.
A before and after comparison:
Adherence and Lasting Power
On my skin it feels like it melts into the skin and sticks on it. The adherence is just so beautiful!
(About 15 minutes after applied)
(An hour and a half after applied. Being in the car with the air-condition tends to make it feel drier)
(4 and a half hours, no touch up. The areas under my eyes are like that because of other loose powder. I have drank and eaten and wiped my mouth with a tissue so that’s why the areas around the mouth looks like that because this foundation transfers. More about it in the Performance section below)
(After five hours plus)
It stays on the skin for more than five hours (I usually put it on at about 8 in the morning and it is still intact at 3PM when I have to wash off my face to perform Zohor prayer). The thin layer of this foundation definitely sticks on. This stays on very very well among all of my foundation. It really is long lasting. I did not touch up for the day that the pictures are taken. And are all not edited.
The coverage is quite high but definitely not 100% full that can even cover tattoo or something. According to Etude House, with “Double Shot Technology,” the foundation provides the same coverage as double coats of a normal foundation with a single application and yes, I concur!
One swipe of the foundation
Patted with fingers
As you can see just with a little amount and some patting, the “xoxo” is covered. The coverage is high for me for my facial skin rarely gets pimples now. But it covers scars greatly that I don’t need concealers except for the under eye areas which I love to put on some before using the baking technique.
Performance and Experience
Other than it’s A class adherence that I mentioned above, what makes this foundation a perfect fit for important events is that this foundation doesn’t oxidize at all on my skin the whole day, unlike my MAC Studio Fix Fluid which is more expensive. It doesn’t get patchy but as you can if I am in an air-conditioned room for quite a long time, it settles in the fine lines so there are some flakiness especially on the areas around the nose. Based on my experience with this Etude House Double Lasting foundation, this stays on more beautifully outdoor or not in an air-conditioned room. That is why I choose this for special occasions such as Hari Raya because it is such a busy day and I sweat a lot and this foundation looks beautiful! I think my natural facial oil makes it looks better? Could be our humid Malaysian weather too, right?
To combat the issue of this foundation settling in the fine lines and flaking in air-conditioned room, I learnt that I need to use a hydrating base such as the Etude House Face Blur #Moisturising variant, the purple one.
Next, as I mentioned above, just like most foundations, this foundation transfers. I tend to sweat a lot on the moustache area so it is a habit of mine to wipe the area with a tissue or napkin. But as you can see in the close-up pictures above, it transfers. What I do is set it properly with my Urban Decay All-Nighter spray and touch it up with a compact powder (however in the pictures above I did not touch up to show you how the foundation looks on itself). Thus, if you are one of the poeple who wears spectacles, this would be something worth noting.
Overall, the lasting power really makes me happy, other than the adherence. Like I have discussed above, there are cons, definitely, but the pros weighed out the cons for me and I am happy to report that this is so worth it as it only retails for RM75.
My rating: 5/5 Repurchase? Yes!
