Review | LuLuLun Daily Use ‘Toner’ Mask

Have you heard of the brand Lululun? It’s a very popular in Japan, with more than 1 Billion sheets masks sold over there!

I have seen some people hyping about it on Instagram, and have seen it on Hermo (online) and Sasa (physical store) especially the Daily Use Regular Series: Hydrating (pink), Deep Moisturizing (blue) and Whitening (white).

“LuLuLun was founded on the idea of wanting to create special care masks that can be used daily. With daily use, the beauty ingredients penetrate into the skin over time, resulting in more radiant and supple skin.

We look at more than whether a product works, but where our ingredients come from and how our products are made. We worked to create products that are simple and easy to use. We cut all unnecessary costs and passed this on to you, so you can keep using LuLuLun for a long time.”

(from their official website)

So I have been using this Pink (Moisturising) variant from their Daily Use Regular Series for almost five months now.

This pink moisturising variant is specified to help keep the skin’s moisture balance. The description says that each box contains the equivalent of 4 bottles of serum, these are to be used daily to set the skin’s moisture meter to the max.

Ingredients

Water, Glycerin, Propanediol, Sodium Pca, Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate, Ectoin, Alpha-Glucan Oligosaccharide, Honey, Citrus Reticulata (Tangerine) Peel Extract, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract, Passiflora Edulis Fruit Extract, Peg-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Xanthan Gum, Citric Acid, Sodium Citrate, Phenoxyethanol, Methylparaben, Butylene Glycol

Star ingredients of this mask are peony flower extract that is high in vitamin D, an antioxidant and an anti-inflammatory agent, mandarin orange extract which are for skin firmness, yeast extract which has abundant nutrients to provide adequate hydration, and gluco-oligosaccharide which supports the building of perfect skin and manages skin condition. Other moisturising ingredients include honey and aloe vera. I love that the ingredients list is not that long and the ingredients used are great for daily use as it is free from alcohol, fragrance, colouring, and additives.

How To Use: Toner Masking Made Easy!

I am sure all of you are familiar with the concept of toner masking, right? It is a technique made famous by #KBeauty where you put on toners or extracts or basically any liquid you find fitting on several pieces of cotton pads and instead of swiping it on, you leave it on the skin for several minutes like you are putting a mask on. I could not find who first coined the term “toner masking” but if you do, hit me up!

This Daily Use Toner Mask is to be used in place of toner instead of at the essence step as the usual sheet masks. Here’s why according to Lululun:

(from hermo.my)

So after cleansing your face, AM or PM, pop open the box and put on one sheet on your skin, wait for just 5 to 10 minutes, take it off, and then proceed with your essence/serum/ampoule, moisturiser, facial oil (if any), or/and sunscreen if you’re using this in the morning or afternoon.

Packaging

It’s a box of mask put inside a re-sealable plastic container packaging. There are 36 pieces of sheet masks in this pack.

Sheet

It is designed in 3-layer structure with the middle layer functioning as the water retention layer to lock in skin toning lotion. The other two layers, on the other hand, works to support penetration of essence into inner layers of skin. The sheet material is made of rayon, PET and tissue (RPT).

The sheet is a bit stretchable and the thickness feels okay – not too thick and not too thin. What I like about the sheet is that it’s very unique; it is nicely wet but it is not overly drenched or dripping. Love love love! Such a great technology in beauty!!

The material feels soft and comfortable. No itchiness with the fabric and no fiber residue left as I take it off. A high quality sheet that is 5/5 for me.

Adherence & Fitting

Okay as this is a toner mask and is only meant to sit on the face for only 5 to 10 minutes, I didn’t really expect it to adhere on the face like a second skin or anything. It does move a bit when I move around and do some house chores so whenever I put this on my face, I would sit still and wait for 5 to 10 minutes as per the instructions. I would rate the adherence 3/5 for me.

Overall it is relatively small for my big, round face. It does not cover the whole of my forehead and cheeks. Luckily the sheet material is stretchable so I can pull it a bit to cover the remaining areas.

As I stretch it out a bit to cover the rest of my cheeks, the hole on the nose seems to become wider too so yeah. The areas around the bottom nose are left wide open like that. But that’s not the worst part, look at the eye holes T______T

The cutting is not small or anything but it is kinda off? Sobs sobs I do not know how else to make it work so I just leave it like that. Anyway the fitting is 2/5 for me.

Essence (Or is it toner?)

The essence has a watery consistency which feels very lightweight and it is not thick or sticky at all. It absorbs nicely into the skin, giving my skin an instant hydration boost. It really feels just like toner, but with a longer hydration power. The essence is not drippy but it is sufficient for my whole face. The feeling after is just like I have just been toner masking.

Experience

Honestly I wish that the fitting suits my face size and shape better because I really really love the sheet fabric and the essence and the fact that it really feels just like toner, but with a longer hydration power. It does say that the moisture power stays 3 hours longer than normal toners and I don’t think they overclaim as this really really feels so moisturising.

It really helps minimalise my skincare routine as I can skip any hydrating ampoule or serum and just go straight to moisturiser. I love using this when I am using thicker cream or sleeping mask at night as I don’t have to layer much products.

I think this is suitable for all skin types as the ingredients list are free from fragrance and alcohol. Besides, I have not experienced any bad reactions such as itchiness or stinging sensation or irritation or breakout.

I am so sad that the fitting disappoints me because I really really love the concept of daily toner mask and the essence formula is great as my skin seems to ‘drink’ it up and retains it longer than the usual toners. The fitting however, makes the whole masking experience unpleasant for me as I keep on counting the seconds to take it off especially because of the weird eye holes. But I see that this mask goes alright on others so maybe it is just me?

My rate: 3/5

Repurchase? Maybe not T_____T
