Review | Benton Aloe Soothing Mask Pack

I love sheet masking! Especially during days when it is hot, I love to put on a sheet mask to cool down the temperature of my skin and give it some hydration. Some days after I’m done with lunch and doing house chores, I love to put on a sheet mask and chill with a good book with the A/C on, and some days I need to put on sheet mask while feeding or playing with my son or doing the laundry.

Currently, I have tried three sheets of this Benton Aloe Soothing Mask Pack. Benton recommends storing this in the fridge for extra cooling and I did just that and it feels so amazing. Before we get to that part, let’s look at the ingredients first:

Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Water, Aqua (Water), Camellia Sinensis Leaf Water, Glycerin, Pentylene Glycol, Sodium PCA, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract, Sodium Hyaluronate, Beta-Glucan, Cucumis Sativus (Cucumber) Fruit Extract, Butylene Glycol, Xanthan Gum, Microcrystalline Cellulose, Sodium Gluconate, Betaine, 1,2-Hexanediol, Propanediol, Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate, Cellulose Gum

I love how short the ingredients list is with aloe leaf water as first ingredient. Aloe vera is 48% of the ingredient and I love that. Aloe vera is known for soothing irritated skin, cooling skin down, and is such a popular sun aftercare. People have been using aloe vera to calm sunburn and hydrate skin. Other than aloe as the star ingredient, this also has cucumber extract as emollient. This also contains green tea extract. Aloe, cucumber, and green tea? Such a soothing trio! Other notable ingredients that I like are glycerin, pentylene glycol, sodium pca, aloe barbadensis leaf extract, sodium hyaluronate, beta-glucan, butylene glycol, sodium gluconate, betaine, propanediol, and dipotassium glycyrrhizate. These are all humectants (ingredients that reduce loss of moisture, retain, and preserve moisture). I have seen beauty gurus and beauty enthusisasts raving about the ingredients when it first launched so I decided to try this one. Oh by the way this is also free from fragrance and volatile alcohol so sensitive skin might like this.

This sheet is made of tencel which is naturally derived from cellulose or ground wood pulp that is sourced from sustainable forest plantations.

There are many advantages of using tencel fabric for sheet mask; here is what Roy Ryoo has to say about tencel sheet mask:

Advantages of Tencel Fabric:

Eco Friendly – Made from the natural cellulose found in wood pulp. The fiber is economical in its use of energy and natural resources, and is fully biodegradable.

Moisture Absorbent – This eco fabric has natural breathability and 50% greater moisture absorption than cotton.

Anti-bacterial – Due to its moisture management, Tencel is also anti-bacterial.

Feel of Fabric – Soft, breathable, lightweight and comfortable. Tencel has an extremely smooth, soft surface that drapes beautifully to flatter every figure.

Great for sensitive skin – Tencel’s smooth fiber surface feels soft and supple against the skin and its incredible wicking abilities keep the skin dry, making Tencel a great fabric for sensitive skin.

Okay science stuff aside, this sheet feels so lightweight and thin, you can see through the skin with this mask on. It’s comfortably breathable, quite cooling (not as cooling as the hydrogel ones though), and does not irritate my skin. The tencel fabric is easy to unfold without me being paranoid of tearing it, and it holds up essence greatly for almost half an hour. It also does not leave any fiber residue when I removed it.

It adheres pretty alright as how the usual tencel sheetmask does. It doesn’t stick like a second skin but at least it does not slide down so I can wear this standing up and moving and not having to lie down. That’s an important point too for a sheet mask for me because as a mother I don’t really always have time to lie down and chill with a book except for night time when my son is sleeping but by that time I am also very sleepy too haha. He also naps during midday but I usually use that time to do other house chores like doing laundry or mopping the house etc.

It fits all my round face but the nose “flap” thing does not really cover all of my big nose haha and that’s okay because I always have such issues with Korean sheet masks. My nose is too big! Anyway, eye holes are great, not too wide and not too small. For me I would rate the fitting 4/5.

Okay now the best part! It comes with a lot of essence but it does not drip annoyingly as the sheet holds the essence nicely. It’s just that there is quite a leftover of essence in the packaging and I use all of it to pat on my skin after I have removed the sheet. The essence has a pH level of about pH6 – pH7, making it slightly acidic, which my skin usually likes. It feels so soothing (as aloe is the first ingredient instead of water) and the effect is delivered efficiently, I must say. There was one time when I used this mask after picking at the blackheads on my nose, and it got me looking like Rudolph but this mask pack calms it down in about half an hour. It also feels so hydrating and leaves my skin feeling supple. It does not leave any greasy feeling. No itchiness or heating up or stinging sensation experienced.

As per suggested by Benton, I make it a habit to store this in my fridge and use it on a hot day and the feeling is so so relaxing and refreshing. The effects of the sheet mask are already explained in the Essence section above. Other than sensitive skin (as I mentioned above) I think people with oily skin and combination skin like me would really love this mask as it is made of oil free ingredients and packed with soothing properties of aloe vera and green tea which are the ingredients that my skin always dig in. However, if your skin is dry and you’re looking for a hydrating mask pack, this one might not deliver enough hydration for you as this one is formulated for soothing and calming effects. This would be a great pack to be included in your TLC if you’re having sunburn or experiencing some irritations or drying from the overuse or misuse of some chemical exfoliants like BHA or AHA etc.

My rate: 5/5

It does what it claims to do and the price is quite alright.
