How I Cleared My Skin | 5 Tips for Acne

Having suffered from acne in my teens, I totally understand the pain of pimples and scars! After a long journey of trial and error, I’ve found 5 tips that have helped me immensely in clearing my skin.

1. Less is more: Don’t over wash and exfoliate!

“The more vigorously you wash your face, the cleaner it is.” – This is one of skincare’s biggest myths, but guess what? All you’re doing is stripping away your skin’s natural barrier!

While overproduction of sebum causes pimples, stripping away too much of our skin’s natural moisturiser is also a bad thing. It is possible to get dehydrated oily skin – where your skin compensates the lack of moisture by producing even more sebum than it originally would.

Instead, wash your face with a gentle cleanser that leaves your skin feeling clean but not stripped!

2. Always wear sunscreen

Just because you’re young, your skin isn’t invincible to damage. Sunscreen is a must have every single day, even on cloudy days as UV rays are still present.

If you’re under 25 years old, wrinkles may not be a major worry right now, but UV rays can increase inflammation and redness, causing hyperpigmentation and acne scars.

If you hate the feeling of sticky sunscreen, try a milk based one instead!

Try: Biore UV Perfect Protect Milk Moisture

This sunscreen very lightweight and absorbs quickly without feeling sticky or greasy.

3. Moisturise, moisturise, moisturise!

Moisturiser isn’t just for dry skin. Similar to over-washing, not giving your skin enough moisture back is a recipe for disaster.

I used to be lazy in applying moisturiser because I hated the sticky feeling on my skin. If that’s your concern, try a water or gel based moisturiser to keep your skin hydrated without the sticky discomfort.

4. Stop picking your pimples!

This may seem like a no brainer, but pleaseee, keep your hands away from your face! Yes, your acne needs to practice #socialdistancing too.

Picking or squeezing your pimples pushes the bacteria into the surrounding skin area, making it even more inflamed and infected. It may feel good for a second, but you’ll be left with an open wound that takes another few weeks to heal.

However if you fail to resist yourself, there is a saviour:

Try: COSRX Acne Pimple Master Patch

This product is my holy grail in keeping my hands off popped acne and also speeds up the healing process! Simply place a patch on a popped pimple overnight, and it will absorb the pus and prevent new bacteria from getting in.

Depending on the severity of your pimple, it might take more than 1 patch to completely clear it. The best part is this patch does not leave any dark scars behind and is also super affordable

5. A healthy lifestyle

And finally, I would like to say that you can lather your face with the most expensive medications, serums and creams in the world, but you can’t run away from the fact that skin health comes from the inside out

So eat right, exercise, and get enough rest – and let your skin reward you for your care!
