Just like skincare, we all have our own preference for our body care. Well, how picky are you in choosing your deodorants? Do you stick to one type and one brand for so long or are you like me; using different type for different situation and always exploring?
There are many types of deodorants that are easily available to us but these three are the most common ones: spray, stick, and roll-on type. I have written an article about #teamspray vs #teamroll-on in which I compared about four deodorants so this time around I wanna share my pick for the stick type and roll-on type. They are both from the brand Nivea.
This is because this brand is a true classic in our Malaysian body care range market, they are easily available in drugstores and online platforms. Be it stick, spray or a roll-on, I am sure to find my favourite deodorant by NIVEA. The ones I have tried are effective against body odour and provide a long-lasting feeling of freshness for our hot and humid weather.

These two are now my main deodorants for daily and I use them both equally frequently, depending on what I am doing. So when do I use the stick type and when do I use the roll-on type?
When I’m feeling stick-y
This stick deodorant that I have is the dry comfort variant and I purposely bought the variant because I intend to use it for days or moments when I am feeling more active than usual such as when I am about to workout, attending my son’s play group session under the sun, doing house chores, a day to the beach, on an island vacation, and more. Basically, this Nivea Female Deodorant Stick Dry Comfort is my pick when I am about to sweat and move a lot more than usual.
This is because solid stick deodorant offer a dry application and as for this variant, a promise of staying dry till the end of the day so it puts me on a worry-free zone so I can focus on doing the activities and go about enjoying my day. It really sucks to have to worry about a wet, sweaty underarm and what people might say about it so stick deodorant seems to be your best bet, right?
Stick deodorant is also useful for when I am in a hurry because unlike the roll-on type, it does not require drying time since it is in a solid for and it goes on dry immediately whereas roll-on is in liquid form so you have to wait for it to absorb into the skin.
Ultimately, out of all types of deodorants, stick deodorant is the best choice for travelling because it is secure – it has minimal risk of leaking especially if the bottle is broken in the travel process like the roll-on type. In the case of air travel, most spray deodorants are prohibited because aerosol cans are considered hazardous due to the fact that almost all aerosols are flammable because of the propellant gases used in the cans. The changes in pressure and temperature on an airplane can cause aerosols to leak, ignite or even explode, in rare cases. That leaves us with roll-on type and stick type, and for me stick type wins the debate because roll-on is liquid and there are many countries that have an amount limit for liquid containers in a hand-carry/carry-on luggage (usually 100ml). Stick deodorant is very very handy for me whenever I am taking a flight as it does not add on unnecessary stress to me when I am travelling.
When I’m Feeling Like Rolling
Although stick deodorants tick most boxes for me, roll-ons have some great benefits especially in really taking care of my underarm. What I like about Nivea is that it has a variety of serums and 2-in-1 serum and deodorants to specifically care for the underarms that target at specific underarm skin concerns such as whitening, brightening, firming, whitening happy shave, whitening pore minimizer, and many more. Well most of this specially-targeted deodorants come in roll-on type and rarely the stick type. Therefore, when it comes to treating my underarm, roll-on is what I prefer. This one above that I am currently loving is a whitening deep serum one, which also targets at firming the skin. It has concentrated Vitamin C and sakura rose essence that gives me the deep nourishment to repair for visibly fairer and firmer underarm skin. So it is like applying serum for the underarm area.
Other than that, roll-on type is my type when I am out for socialising because it smells of the refreshing sakura rose so it gives me confidence to seize the day. I also prefer liquid formulation for my socialising and meeting people outfit because stick deodorants can have a filmy residue that I do not want to risk my blouse or dress off. Plus, Nivea has an Invisible for Black & White Pure variant specifically for this purpose. To feel comfortable in my dressy outfits, I would love for the deodorant to properly absorb into the skin rather than staying on the skin. A soft application with a powdery finish is my choice and I also have time to dress up and get dolled up so the drying time really does not bother me.
So, Stick or Roll-On?
Well I choose both! Both stick type and roll-on type really fits into different situations and needs of my life so having these both in my vanity drawers really suits my lifestyle. I am definitely loving both Nivea Female Deodorant Stick (Dry Comfort) and Nivea Deodorant Female Roll On [#Sakura Rose] which are both 5/5 for me and I am so glad I bought them. Definitely gonna repurchase!
What about you? Stick or roll-on?
