My Hair Rescue | Batiste Dry Shampoo & L’Oreal Paris Elseve Extraordinary Oil Gold

Being a hijabi does not mean I get to skip general hair care. For what it’s worth, my hair needs extra care as it’s kept under a hijab for at least half of the day. It can be really tricky to make sure my hair is not damp and/or smelly. Besides that, Malaysia’s hot and humid weather can cause headaches if my hair is damp or not completely dry under the hijab (imagine a damp hair under the scorching hot sun ewwww!) Especially when it’s a long day at work or outside in which I don’t get to air my hair completely for the day.

For this purpose normally, hijabis use hair dryers on the daily so we need hair oil to make sure our hair won’t get overly dry and brittle. This may lead to other hair problems such as hair fall, itchy scalp, flaky scalp, dandruff, split-ends and a lot more.

Well for me, there are two must-have items for a hijabi (and a mother) like me and they are:

Batiste Dry Shampoo (Fruity & Cheeky Cherry variant) & L’Oreal Paris Elseve Extraordinary Oil Gold

For when I am in a rush: Batiste Dry Shampoo

I wash my hair every morning but let’s face it, there are mornings when I accidentally wake up late (especially when my son wakes up in the middle of the night before) and I have to rush to cook breakfast and all and then I need to go to the wet market to buy protein and vegetables for the family. In all honesty, I would just quickly bathe and brush my teeth and cleanse my face and put on skincare so there is really no time to wash and blow dry my hair and all so yeah, dry shampoo to the rescue!

For those of you who are not yet familiar with the concept of dry shampoo: a dry shampoo is a shampoo that we can use dry, unlike the usual shampoo that needs to be used wet in the shower and needs to be rinsed off – just spray it on and the powder will soak up dirt and oil and the fragrance (most dry shampoos have fragrance but there are some that are scentless) will make your hair smell nice.

This comes in an aerosol spray bottle with a waterless formula that targets excess oil, dirt, and grease at the roots.

Butane, Isobutane, Propane, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Starch, Alcohol Denat, Parfum (Fragrance), Distearyldimonium Chloride, Cetrimonium Chloride.

How To Use:

(My husband being such a sweetheart and agreed to be the hair model, please ignore my son’s babble hehe)

Just spray this on and voila! But wait, do not use this on a wet hair okay? And do not spray too to your eyes. How I use this is I shake the can before spraying and I keep the nozzle at least ten inches from my hair. I lightly spray into the roots and I would use my fingertips to massage through hair and I would leave in for a few seconds before combing and wearing my hijab.

Why I love It

Batiste Cherry smells so subtle and fruity. It has scents of wildberries, kiwi, and rose that is not overpowering or headache-inducing for me. I love how this Batiste Dry Shampoo instantly makes my hair feel fresh and clean.

Besides, this dry shampoo is also suitable for all women, hijab or non-hijab, because it gives body and texture to your hair and you would not have to worry about it making your hair looks flat or blah.Other than in a hectic morning, this dry shampoo is also so handy for gym time or during travelling.

To keep it healthy: L’Oreal Paris Elseve Extraordinary Oil Gold

I use hair dryer on the daily (I just use the normal Pensonic one, have yet to splurge on a fancy Dyson one) and every time I do, my hair would get so dry and ‘crispy’ (not the good kind of crispy lol) so I need an oil that could nourish my hair but at the same time does not make my hair under hijab super oily when I sweat AND one that does not make my scalp itchy.

Enter: L’Oreal Paris Elseve Extraordinary Oil Gold *tadaaaaaa*

It contains a blend of 6 precious floral oil extracts, extraordinary oil nourishes, softens and protects hair, leaving it silky shine with a ultra lightweight, non greasy finish. Extraordinary Oil can be used before shampoo, before blow-drying, as a finishing touch or as a treatment for a boost of shine and nutrients.

Cyclopentasiloxane, Dimethiconol, chomomilla Recutita Extract, Matricaria Flower Extract, Cocos Nucifera Oil/Coconyt Oil, Nelumbium Speciousum extract, Benzyl Alcohol, Linum Usitatissimumm Rosa Canina, Soja Oil, Canna Flower Extract

It’s a multi usage hair oil treatment that is light and non-greasy. This is such an important criterion for a hair oil that is going to be under hijab for hours, enduring sweat and not transferring to the fabric of my inner cap (anak tudung).

The wonderful lightweight texture:

I apply about this much before blow drying my hair. If you have a long hair you might need more than this amount. Then I rub them between the palms of my hands and apply evenly through the lengths and ends of my damp (towel-dry) hair before blowing my hair.

I love that it absorbs quickly so it really fits into my rushed mornings and is really not high-maintenance. Major love!

I have used an oil that smells super great but as it mixes with my natural hair odour and sweat, it makes my hair kinda smelly. I have also tried an oil that makes my hair super shiny and not frizzy, which I like, but too bad the texture is kinda heavy so when I sweat on a hot afternoon, I am really prone to headache and therefore we had to part ways sob sob. But not this Extraordinary Oil Gold! This one has a super light texture that does not give me headache, and at the same time keeping my hair nourished.

So there they are! My favourite hair rescue duo, Batiste Dry Shampoo and L’Oreal Paris Elseve Extraordinary Oil Gold!

I rate this both 5/5 and I have repurchased more than five times.
