REVIEW | Uriage Crème Lavante Soap-Free Liquid Cleanser

Have you found the perfect cleanser for your face? The one that can never go wrong, the one that you use both in the AM and in the PM every day? When we find that one cleanser that suits our skin and makes the whole routine after cleansing better, of course we stick to it, right? But not really for me! I just can’t seem to be monogamous with my holy grail cleanser (it’s the Cosrx Low pH Good Morning Gel Cleanser, by the way) knowing that there are other new cleansers I have not yet explored LOL. Is it the skincare enthusiast in me? I am not sure, but I do love to explore new ‘it’ ingredient as well as brand. However, I do not really encourage this type of behaviour, okay? Note that I don’t try new cleansers every week or every month. Before trying I also make sure that I have read the inci list first and before properly using, I always always patch test.

Okay so what’s new in my radar? It’s from the French brand, Uriage; it is their Crème Lavante Soap-Free Liquid Cleanser. The name itself is so intriguing, what being all soap-free and ‘liquid’. So I purchased the mini-sized one from Hermo and let’s see if I agree to commit to purchasing the full-sized one!

A 2-in-1 skincare product that cleanses and nourishes skin at once. Creme lavante (soap-free cleansing cream) preserves the hydrolipidic film, perfectly respects cutaneous balance and compensates for the drying-out effects of hard water. With a pleasant fragrance and a fine, creamy, easy-to-rinse foam, creme lavante leaves skin perfectly clean, soft and moisturized. Suitable for infants, adults and sensitive skin. Hypoallergenic. Soap-free. Ophthalmologically tested.

Aqua (Water, Eau) , Magnesium Laureth Sulfate , Decyl Glucoside – Glycerin , Cocamidopropyl Betaine , Parfum (Fragrance) , Styrene/Acrylates Copolymer , Sodium Chloride , Peg,120 Methyl Glucose Dioleate , Dmdm Hydantoin , Citric Acid , Shorea Stenoptera Seed Butter.

I love how the ingredients list is short as less ingredients usually poses less risk for irritation as accroding to Jennifer Chwalek, MD.:

So, basically, you’re getting more bang for your buck since there are less filler ingredients reducing the potency of the star ingredients that you’re actually trying to reap glow-boosting benefits from. “The benefit of limiting your skin-care ingredients it that you reduce the risk of irritation or allergy, and that you can focus on products that have a higher concentration of active ingredients like vitamin C, pure ascorbic acid, or retinol,” says Dr. Chwalek.

It is also soap-free as it claims to be non-drying and good for sensitive skin as well as babies and children skin. Wow! Now what is it with soap being drying, you may ask. Soap is a strong anionic surfactant which job is to remove dirt and oil, including our skin’s natural oil. While it is not a problem to oily skin, this could pose a drying threat to dry or sensitive skin (more on this later). Okay back to the ingredients, the surfactants used in this cleanser are Magnesium Laureth Sulfate (one of the surfactants used in Bioderma Atoderm Crème De Douche,  Bioderma Pigmentbio Foaming Cream, and Bioderma White Objective Moussant), Decyl Glucoside, andCocamidopropyl Betaine. Also note that this contains fragrance so if your skin cannot tolerate fragrance, this might be something you want to consider.

Texture and Smell

The smell is not strong but not that subtle either, I am not a fan of the fragrant but I don’t hate it either. I just think that I can do without it. Sooo yeah, not a fan of the smell BUT I AM DEFINITELY A FAN OF ITS TEXTURE!

It’s really liquid-y. Upon squeezing it out, it looks and feels runny and watery, unlike most cleansers which are usually milky or creamy or other more viscous type.

And what I love more about it is that to my pleasure, it lathers up so fine, which I don’t really expect from a soap-less cleanser because usually for cleansers who are soap-less they normally have not much suds but this one bubbles up easily. Major love!

Here, look closer at how foamy it is:

This cleanser is definitely not a typical one because as most soap-less cleansers, they usually feel so gentle that it might not be enough for oily skin but this one feels deeply cleansing (which someone with combination skin like me love especially for evening or night use) without stripping off skin’s natural oil or moisture. Unlike most gentle cleansers, this one feels gentle but deeply cleansing so I reach for this both in the AM and in the PM. Plus, typical soap-less cleansers usually do not really suds up much but this one is totally the opposite and I have to say, wow I am so impressed!

The cleansing experience is a pleasant one and I love how it makes my skin feels. My skin feels cleansed, moisturised, and no taut or tight feeling and it ticks most boxes (except for the fragrant part but that is not a big issue because the fragrance in the inci list does not irritate me) for me. Besides, I love how the formulation is soap-less and has a short ingredients list and how the texture is dreamy. The full-sized one retails for RM80 so yeah, quite a splurge for only cleanser. I have my holy grail cleanser that gives better experience with much cheaper price.

However, if you really like this and its unique formulation and texture, the price is so so worth it for me!
