REVIEW | Uriage Eau Thermale Water Cream

Are you familiar with the concept of water cream? The famous ones are definitely the Tatcha The Water Cream (OMG this has been on my wishlist since forever!), Krave Beauty Oat So Simple Water Cream (I have tried this one and it is definitely a 5/5 for my combination skin in this Malaysian hot and humid weather), Kiehl’s Calendula Serum Infused Water Cream, Purito Deep Sea Water Cream, and many more. Anyway, there is one water cream on Hermo that caught my eyes and it is this Uriage Eau Thermale Water Cream:

Before we dissect the Uriage Eau Thermale Water Cream, let me share with you what is a water cream if you do not know it already. Water cream for me is a water-based, lightweight moisturizer that sinks into the skin (unlike most oil-based moisturizers that stay on top of the skin) and most water creams give immediate surge of hydration. Okay now let’s look at this product!

Aqua (Water, Eau) ,Cetearyl Isononanoate ,Dimethicone ,Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter ,Squalane ,Butylene Glycol ,Diglycerin ,Propanediol ,Xylitylglucoside ,1,2-Hexanediol ,Cetyl Alcohol ,Anhydroxylitol ,Polysorbate 60 ,Glycerin ,Trehalose ,Urea ,Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer ,Polyacrylate Crosspolymer-6 ,Hydroxyethyl Acrylate/Sodium Acryloyldimethyl Taurate Copolymer ,Xylitol ,Chlorphenesin ,Glucose ,O-Cymen-5-Ol ,Parfum (Fragrance) ,Pentylene Glycol ,Serine ,Sodium Hydroxide ,Sorbitan Isostearate ,Algin ,Caprylyl Glycol ,Disodium Phosphate ,Glyceryl Polyacrylate ,Pullulan ,Sodium Hyaluronate ,T-Butyl Alcohol ,Potassium Phosphate

This water cream is enriched with Uriage Thermal Water that helps rebuild skin barrier to maintain an optimum moisturization level. What is so special about this Uriage Thermal Water? According to Uriage, this thermal water is born in the heart of the French Alps and has flowed for 75 years through the rocks. As the seasons pass by, it gets enriched with minerals and trace elements.

It is a protective and isotonic water that acts like a physiological serum. Skin-identical ingredients in this water cream are Squalane, Diglycerin, Glycerin, Urea, Serine, and Sodium Hyaluronate. This water cream is packed with moisturising ingredients such as Butylene Glycol,  Diglycerin, Propanediol, Xylitylglucoside, Anhydroxylitol, Glycerin, Trehalose, Urea, Xylitol, Glucose, Pentylene Glycol, Caprylyl Glycol, and Sodium Hyaluronate. However, this water cream contains fragrance in it in case it is a concern for you. It also has a high concentration of dimethicone (it is the third ingredient in the list) if it is also a concern for you as some people find it comedogenic or pore-clogging but for me it really depends on the skin and the formulation.

How To Use

This is a moisturiser so it is to be used at the moisturiser step which is the last step before sunscreen (in the morning) or sleeping mask (at night) so it goes like this: first cleanser – second cleanser – exfoliant – toner  – essence – ampoule/serum – sheetmask (if any)  – eye cream – Uriage Eau Thermale Water Cream – sunscreen or sleeping mask.

Disclaimer: the above is just a guideline but the rule of thumb is always from the thinnest to the thickest.

Texture and Smell

It smells pleasantly subtle and not overpowering at all. The texture is quite watery, still a bit viscous (you can feel that the consistency is of a cream or a lotion instead of say, a toner or serum or ampoule etc.) but does not feel heavy at all.

The cream is spreadable and absorbs really nicely. The description says that it melts into the skin and it really does.

The finish is not oily or greasy at all.

I love to use this in the morning and during midday because it feels so lightweight and absorbs quickly (I tend to rush doing my skincare routine in the morning and during midday as compared to at night). The texture is dreamy as in it melts into my skin, giving it an instant boost of hydration. What scores more point for this water cream is how it keeps my skin less oily throughout the day. I go bare skin (only sunscreen) most days so I love how I do not have to blot my nose and forehead every time I want to reapply my sunscreen.

Other than that, it also makes my skin feels soft to the touch. It says that it leaves a protective film on the skin surface to gradually release the moisturizing agents that it contains but to me I can’t really feel the film on my skin. That is really impressive, to be honest!

I also love this under makeup especially my Clio cushion foundation and April Skin cushion foundation because it makes them adhere better to my skin. My skin also looks and feels plump and hydrated. I think this is a great cream to repair or strengthen your skin barrier so if your skin is oily or combination and you don’t have any problem with the ingredients, I really think that you would love this light water cream. For dry skin however, Uriage formulates another variant for water cream so worry not!

The only downside to this cream for me is the price point. It’s pricey but I think looking at the formula and the texture and the performance, it is definitely justifiable.

My rate: 4.5/5
