I am pretty sure this cleanser needs no introduction be it in Japan or Malaysia as Senka Perfect Whip is the No. 1 facial cleanser in Japan for 8 consecutive years. You’re probably familiar with this one as this cleanser is well known and is also easily available at our drugstores.
It is enhanced with Shiseido’s unique moisture-boosting Aqua-In-Pool ingredient that protects and strengthens skin against day-to-day damage and reinforces skin’s barrier function. In addition, Senka’s signature silk cocoon essence claims to improve skin’s resilience for longer-lasting moisture without leaving a tight feeling!
I have heard about its popularity among university and high school students from my sisters so I decided to give it a try.
Water, Stearic Acid, PEG-8, Myristic Acid, Potassium Hydroxide, Glycerine, Lauric Acid, Alcohol, Butylene Glycol, Glyceryl Stearate SE, Polyquaternium-7, PEG/PPG-14/7 Dimethyl Ether, Sodium Hyaluronate, Sodium Acetylated Hyaluronate, Sericin, Hydrolyzed Silk, Disodium EDTA, Sodium Metabisulfite, Citric Acid, Potassium Sorbate, Sodium Benzoate, Fragrance
As you can see the ingredients list is not long. Among the goodie ingredients are glycerine as hydrating agent, sodium hyaluronate for wound healing and also water-binding agent, silk protein (sericin) for moisturising and anti-aging, hydrolyzed silk for antioxidant + antibacterial + moisturizing + potential anti-aging , and citric acid as AHA. However, alcohol is the eighth ingredient so this poses quite a worry for some people especially people with dry skin but I have tried it and it is not drying at all (more on this below).
The description says that this cleanser is allergy-tested, no colours added, and suitable for all skin types.
Texture and Smell
I fell in love at first use with its texture.
(freshly squeezed from the tube)
(lathered up with water, so whipped!)
It is creamy but it does not leave any greasy or filmy residue and I love how it bubbles up easily into rich, dense foam.
It smells pleasantly soapy. It does not strip off skin’s moisture and the when it claims that there is no taut or tight, drying feeling after, yes it really lives up to it. My skin also feels super moisturised and refreshed.
This cleanser falls into the mild cleanser category for me so for dry skin, this would be perfect for you! For combination skin like me, this fits into my morning routine as I love gentle cleansers in the morning but for PM use I would prefer something more deeply cleansing. For oily skin however, I am not sure if this cleanser is enough for you especially for evening use when you need to rid off not only your excess oil but dirt and accumulated dead skin cells. Maybe you can use a first cleanser (cleansing oil or micellar water) with stronger removal power? Hmmm that’s something to think about and try for yourself because I cannot confirm it for you since my skin is not the oily type.
I experience no irritation, no breakout, no redness and no itchiness with this cleanser. I also love how the foam feels so pillowy and whipped.
I find myself reaching for this in the morning and also during midday. This is also perfect as my post-exfoliation cleanser because for that purpose, I need something that won’t aggravate the exfoliation but still does the job as cleansing my face.
The next thing that I love most about this cleanser is its price point. It is a good cleanser but one that won’t break the bank. The fact that it is super affordable makes it so popular among teenagers and for parents looking for good cleansers for their teenage daughters and sons. Don’t you just love it when skincare is available and accessible and affordable? I do!
In conclusion, this cleanser is not something that wows me (there are other cleansers that I like a lt better) but it is still great as a gentle cleanser and it does what is says it does.
