I love exfoliating. That feeling of deep cleansing and revealing soft and brightened skin can get addictive! Today, let’s review a facial scrub that I recently love – the Klairs Gentle Black Sugar Facial Polish.
Who’s it for
There are two main functions of this scrub:
- A blackhead remover for sensitive skin
- A facial exfoliator for all skin types
I fall more under the second category. I can’t personally vouch for how effective it is in removing blackheads since I don’t really have them, but I can definitely testify its amazing ability to exfoliate and give soft, smooth and clear skin!
Featuring black sugar, shea butter and cranberry oil as its star ingredients, this scrub provides an abundance of moisture while gently removing blackheads and dead skin at the same time.
Black sugar and unsaturated fatty acids melt the deeply rooted blackheads and sebum in the pores, as well as rough skin, making it silky smooth. Then, the cranberry seed oil, shea butter, and vitamins A & E hydrate and comfort the skin.
Full Ingredients list
Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Sucrose, Cetyl Ethylhexanoate, Glycerin, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter), Tocopheryl Acetate, Candelilla Cera, PEG-7 Glyceryl Cocoate, Polysorbate 20, Microcrystalline Wax, Cetyl Alcohol, Molasses, Glycyrrhiza Glabra (Licorice) Root Powder, Fragrance, Carapa Guaianensis Seed Oil, Vaccinium Macrocarpon (Cranberry) Seed Oil
Texture and fragrance
The scrub is made of very fine black sugar particles that do not rub abrasively against the skin. Overall, the product feels sticky at first to touch, but after adding a few drops of water and massaging it on the skin, it melts like butter. The melting of the black sugar particles also give a luxurious facial-like experience!
Fragrance wise, it contains a pleasant caramel-ish scent. Nothing too overpowering, just enough to make you feel refreshed and rejuvenated.
How I use it + Results
After cleansing, I scoop out around a coin sized amount of polish and dissolve it in 2-3 drops of water. Then, I simply massage it evenly around my face, paying extra attention to my T-zone area (the pesky places where pimples love). I keep massaging until all the black sugar particles melt completely, then wash it off with warm water.
The results? Soft, silky smooth and healthy glowing complexion!
Overall, I think this scrub does a great job at exfoliating the skin and giving you pretty instant results. When used in the day, it helps makeup adhere better on the skin and when applied at night, it promotes better absorption of skincare.
The product description recommends pairing it with cleansing oil, but I have yet to try that as cleansing oils break out my skin. Do leave a comment if you have!
They focus on natural, wholesome ingredients free from artificial chemicals in their products, making them suitable and gentle for every skin type. I love their motto of “simple but enough” – rather than adding a bunch of fancy unnecessary ingredients, they simply pack a punch with the basic but effective ones. Oh and did you know, they are also cruelty free? 🙂
