REVIEW | Blithe Inbetween Makeup Prep Essence

Do you own a product that you can’t decide if you 100% like it or dislike it but you kept on using? This Blithe InBetween Makeup Prep Essence is one of my love-hate product that I had been using it religiously for over 2 months. I love putting on makeup but makeup is causing a lot of problems on my acne-prone skin. Would you like to know how this product changes my skin? Do keep on reading.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION:
A lightweight essence made with fermented soybeans, rice and tomato leaf extract to fortify the skin’s natural barrier. It is suitable for all skin types, with or without makeup. It is a multitask product that nourish, hydrate and perfectly prep skin for a smooth, foundation-ready canvas. The Makeup Prep Essence is an innovative, lightweight serum that creates a sheer, protective layer on the skin’s surface to lock in moisture, prevent makeup from clogging pores, and combat environmental stressors from wreaking havoc throughout the day.

HIGHLIGHTED INGREDIENTS:
Squalane and Ceremide: Nourish, hydrate and strengthen skin’s nature barrier
Fermented Soybean, Rice and Ginseng Extracts: Brighten and boost skin radiance

HOW TO USE:
I like to use it after moisturizer and before sunscreen. The direction suggested a pea-sized amount but I normally use roughly half a pump for my whole face. I will wait for it to dry down completely before proceeding to the next step.

TEXTURE: Serum like consistency, slightly cloudy with quite runny texture. It absorbs easily into skin and doesn’t leave the skin feeling tacky or heavy.

SCENT: A floral-ish or botanical-ish scent? I don’t know how to describe, it doesn’t smell bad but I am not a big fan of it.

MY VERDICT:
Let’s start with what I like about this product: I have never tried any product like this and it’s really true to it’s claims. As I mentioned above, I like to use it before sunscreen. The reason why is I tend to get quite a lot of Sebaceous Filaments (SF) after using sunscreen (especially when the sunscreen contains Hyaluronic Acid/Sodium Hyaluronate) but when I layer this Makeup Prep Essence before the Sunscreen, the SF had reduced significantly. I am “shook”! My skin is less problematic where I don’t feel like the need to extract sebaceous filaments on daily basis. Another pros’ point for this Makeup Prep Essence is, it helps to remove makeup easier. It has almost zero residue after the first cleanse (after oil cleanser). Thus, clean skin leads to less breakout. Awesome right?

So now we proceed to what I don’t favor in this Prep Essence. It helps to remove makeup easily right, it also doesn’t help to prolong makeup wearing time. It doesn’t helps in regulating the sebum production, my T-zone area gets super oily after like 2 hours. Since we need to wear a face mask (not sheet mask ok) during this pandemic and my new YSL Cushion Foundation is not sticking well to my skin to begin with. It became even more disastrous when I pair this InBetween Makeup Prep Essence with the YSL Cushion Foundation. But fret not, I think I have found a solution for that now. I started trying COSRX Cica Powder recently and I find that it helps to make my skin stays matte. That is another interesting product that I have never seen anything similar to it. But we’ll leave that to another review.

HOW WOULD I RATE IT AND WILL I REPURCHASE?
I am still going to rate it a 4/5 because Sebaceous Filaments had been a pain since my teens and I always get breakout when I put on makeup for more than a couple hours. This InBetween Prep Essence is really a savior for my skin. Yes I would consider to repurchase this product.
