Up until a couple years ago, I was merely using primers, foundations and setting powders for base makeup but my whole makeup routine changed ever since I’ve started having redness on certain part of my facial area and my overall complexion is looking a bit dull and sallow mostly due to lack of sleep.
Now, I’m exploring more options on base makeup that can help to sort of calibrate my skin back to its neutral undertone instead of using primers that only make my makeup last even longer because I would only be wearing makeup for about 3 to 4 hours these days.
While I’ve only been all over LANEIGE cushion foundations for more than 5 years at this point; I just had to begin my search with the brand’s Skin Veil Base with UV protection of SPF23 PA++and I got mine in No. 50 Milky Blue.
About the base makeup:
It’s supposedly fix your makeup; making it last longer on skin without letting the foundation to oxidise i.e anti-darkening and thanks to the dual calibration system, this also help to calibrate yellow undertone while providing UV protection.
How to Use:
- Use after skincare application; after the sunscreen and prior your foundation application.
Capacity: 30ml – About 3 to 6 months depending on your personal usage.
Water, Cyclopentasiloxane, Dimethicone, Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate, Cyclohexasiloxane, Butylene Glycol, Glycerin, C12-15 Alkyl Benzoate, Dimethicone / Vinyl Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Lauryl PEG-9 Polydimethylsiloxyethyl Dimethicone, Polymethyl Methacrylate, Disteardimonium Hectorite, PEG / PPG-19, 19 Dimethicone, Sodium Chloride, Boron Nitride, Hydrogenated Polydecene, Fragrance, Mica, Caprylyl Glycol, Synthetic Fluorphlogopite, Ultramarines (CI 77007), Glyceryl Caprylate, Ethylhexylglycerin, C12-15 Alcohols, Disodium EDTA, Aluminium Hydroxide, Triethoxycaprylate Crosspolymer, Vinyl Dimethicone / Methicone Silsesquioxane Crosspolymer, Tin Oxide, Isododecane, BHT, Acrylates / Polytrimethylsiloxymethacrylate Copolymer, Tocopherol, Propanediol, 1.2-hexanediol, Sodium Magnesium Silicate, Gluthathione, malphigia Emarginata (Acerola) Fruit Extract, Euterpe Oleracea Fruit Extract.
The product comes in a box with minimal design and hologram effect which is so pretty! There are ample product information printed at the sides of the box in English for your reference.
As shown above, the product comes in a pretty bottle with airless pump which I truly appreciate. The small pump-end surely for easy product dispense and there’s simple product description printed at the back of the bottle too for quick reference.
The expiry date was printed at the bottom of the bottle in EXP YYYYMMDD (year-month-day) format and can be used up until 12 months after opened.
As you can see in the above photo, the base makeup comes in that light blue liquid; almost similar to regular liquid foundation but once spread even on skin, there’s nice, even, tone-up effect visible on skin.
The consistency is lightweight so it is quite easy to spread on skin whether you’re simply using your fingers or puff / sponge or even foundation brush. I would say that the scent is quite strong to some people but not to worry as it doesn’t linger.
As you can see above, there’s only the brightened up effect left on skin that helps to even out the sallowness on my facial area. I usually use concealer on the next step i.e. on top of my foundation but I can totally tell that this base corrector does helps in neutralising the slight redness I’ve been having along my upper cheeks.
It goes without saying that this product generally to be used for overall complexion and not to correct say, dark circles as I’d be using a much more intense orange or peach coloured base corrector for that. Therefore I usually begin my base makeup application with high-SPF colourless or mineral sunscreen for UV protection then apply this base corrector all over my facial area followed by colour corrector and then spot concealer prior my foundation. It does take a lot of practice especially when it comes to using the right amount of product for each step and I need to make sure to blend everything well using beauty blender.
Overall, I give this product 5/5. The formulation does work well even with my currently dehydrated skin; provided that I’ve at least applied a proper moisturiser prior my base makeup application and now that I’m about to finish my first bottle, I’m thinking to try the other sisters in different colours.
What sets this from the other base corrector that I’ve tried from other AmorePacific brands would be the blue colour that neutralises yellowish skin like mine which only available by LANEIGE while also offering other colours like purple, green with pink as their latest addition.
While I don’t really think a base corrector is a must-have for one’s makeup routine, I just find this product is a great addition to mine as it does give me that flawless finish that last all day long.
