REVIEW | Laneige Cream Skin Milk Oil Cleanser

Looking for a gentle cleanser for your sensitive, irritated-prone skin? Or maybe you just want to try out a milk cleanser with a bit of a twist? Well, following in the success of their best-selling Cream Skin Refiner toner-lotion hybrid, Laneige has now released a mild Milk Oil Cleanser that would be perfect as the first step in your gentle cleansing routine! Packaged in similar minimalist aesthetics, will this product be as great as its predecessor?

Transparent, matte bottle with a white pump dispenser. Very clean, minimal look that fits the rest of the aeshetically-pleasing Cream Skin family. The pump also has a sturdy “twist-and-lock” mechanism, which makes it quite travel-friendly.

Originally, the Milk Oil Cleanser is packaged with the pump seperated from the bottle in clear plastic, and instead the cleanser is topped off with a white twist-off cap. This is probably to ensure the product’s freshness and complete safety during delivery, ie. no possibility of leakages.

12 months

  1. Pump 2-3 times to take out an adequate amount.
  2. Gently massage the whole face with your hands.
  3. Heavy or waterproof makeup may require extra rubbing*.
  4. Cleanse the face once again. If you want to keep your skin moisturised after cleansing, you may skip the double cleanse.

*NOTE: It is recommended that you use a lip & eye remover for heavily tinted, longlasting and/or waterproof makeup products.

Unlike Laneige’s other product lines, this Milk Oil Cleanser has, at most, a mild, milky scent similar to the rest of the Cream Skin line. I personally find it inoffensive as it’s more or less unscented.

Light, watery, milky texture with some oiliness that glides onto the skin easily. Has a lot of slip to it, and does not emulsify unlike other oil cleansers. I personally prefer applying it on dry skin as damp/wet skin makes removing even light makeup less effective.

Sensitive (prone to redness and irritation), combination-dry, acne-prone and dehydrated.

After having the Laneige Cream Skin Refiner as my top skincare product in 2019, when I saw that they released a gentle cleanser to fit the sensitive skin-friendly theme, I knew I had to get it! So… here we are. Note: this is my honest opinion after about more than half a year of using this baby.

To be honest, I do think I overestimated how much I would like this cleanser – or at least, my expectations of how it would work to remove makeup was far too high. Also, just because I love the Cream Skin line in general, I just magically expected I’d really love everything in it.

Now, this is not to say I hate it and it’s the worst thing ever, but personally, it’s just an okay product. If you’re looking for a gentle morning cleanser or if you love milk cleansers in general due to dry, easily irritated skin issues, you will love this. It is definitely as hydrating as advertised as I never found it to strip my skin of moisture.

Before After

However, as you can see above, it’s pretty mediocre at completely removing even daily makeup. Though it is fine at removing non-waterproof sunscreen and I guess, the daily grime and pollutants of the day. So, for me, it’s just decent. Hence why I prefer to keep it for morning use.

🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑 (4/5)

Overall, I still find it a good product, but I do think my expectations were a bit too high at first. Still rating it quite highly as I do find it great for when my skin is irritated and sensitive to stimuli. Very fitting as an addition to the Cream Skin line, after all.
