REVIEW | LANEIGE Watery Sun Cream SPF50+ PA++++

At this point, I probably have more than 10 opened sunscreens on my vanity right now as I rarely wear base makeup these days and have been focusing only on UV protection throughout the hours of the day. I do apply some light makeup so I won’t appear lifeless while I’m on video conferences but that’s just about it.

On some days when my skin is feeling a little bit dehydrated, I would be needing nice hydrating sunscreens preferably with creamy or heavier consistency that can retain the moisture well on my skin while providing long-lasting protection with high SPF and broad spectrum. This Watery Sun Cream SPF50+ PA++++ from LANEIGE simply ticks all the boxes of my ideal sunscreen for drier skin days but let’s get down with some basic details on this product before I go in-depth with why do I adore it.

What’s to Know about this Sunscreen?

  • Has watery texture that goes on nicely on dry skin and highly resistant to water and sweat.
  • Contains Birch Sap which is abundant in moisture with nourishment and skin moisturizing factors that keep the skin well-moisturized even under a dry environment.
  • LANEIGE Water Screen™ provides moisture to skin by forming a moisturising protective layer that shield the skin from external stressors.

How to Use:

  1. Shake before use.
  2. Apply an adequate amount on the face and neck at the final step of skincare.
  3. Apply generously 15 minutes before sun exposure (or makeup).

PACKAGING

The sunscreen comes in its own box with English product information printed at the back but there’s also a leaflet included for full description of the brand’s sunscreen line.

As shown above, the sunscreen comes with a simple screw cap with a small tube-end for easy product dispense and there’s simplified  product descriptions printed at the back of the bottle too for a quick reference. As I have both this and the Light Fluid Sun sister, it’s easy to spot which is which as the caps are in different colours.

The Expiry Date is printed at the bottom of the bottle in YYYYMMDD (Year-Month-Day) format

APPLICATION

As you can see, the sunscreen is  almost opaque, creamy yet goes on nicely and gives slightly toned up effect once spread well with well-moisturised i.e quite dewy finish on skin. I do apply this product all over my facial area on super dehydrated skin days but I’d only be adding a layer of it on top of the Light Fluid Sun sister then blending it nicely along my dryness-prone upper cheeks area on regular skin days.

There’s a somewhat fresh scent to this sunscreen as with other LANEIGE products but it’s definitely not overpowering and doesn’t bother me at all.

While the sunscreen adheres well for hours on skin without piling up; I do have the the habit of applying facial mist every couple of hours to keep my skin well-hydrated in my fully air-conditioned office. To complement the sunscreen, I’d be using the Water Bank Moisture Mist also from the same brand that’s lightweight yet packs a lot of hydration as it contains Ceramide while also refreshing the skin at the same time.

Even though I have a sun cushion for quick reapplication at anywhere or anytime of the day, I do carry the deluxe sample of this sunscreen in my daily bag because it’s just convenient to bring around and don’t you just love when you have options?

With the new norm of wearing face mask for about 4 to 8 hours a day, I’d only be applying and reapplying sunscreen throughout the hours whether I’m working at the office or staying indoor as I work right from home. With that, I’d be using non-drying micellar water to remove the layers of UV protection products and the one product I’ve been indulging myself with would be this LANEIGE Perfect Makeup Cleansing Water. While this makeup remover requires no rinsing, I’d still followed this up with water-based facial cleanser for thorough double-cleansing method and use separate eye makeup remover for my waterproof mascara.

THOUGHTS

Overall, I give this sunscreens 5/5. I do love applying and reapplying the sunscreen throughout the day as it works well especially with my currently dehydrated normal to oily skin.

Knowing that this sunscreen provides a layer of moisture on the skin while also giving UV protection, I actually did applied it on top of my regular gel moisturiser and thankfully didn’t feel the dryness like I usually would whenever I didn’t apply proper moisturiser. Knowing that, I sometimes skipped my hydrating lotion or emulsion that I usually layer underneath my lightweight moisturiser on rushed mornings or whenever I feel that step was a bit redundant to my skincare routine therefore it’s imperative to know my skin conditions well so I can adjust my routine accordingly.

I’d say whether you’re a person with dry skin type or normal skin type but excessively spend your hours in air-conditioned space with heavy sunlight coming in through the windows or you’re simply looking for sunscreen that works well under matte foundations, this sun cream is definitely worth the try.
