REVIEW | SOS Care with Klairs Midnight Blue Calming Cream

Boasting ultimate skin soothing benefits, the Klairs Midnight Blue Calming Cream has been on my wishlist for a long time. And after using samples of it to great results whenever my skin was particularly sensitized, I gave in and got the more hygienic tube option offered instead of the jar.

So, here is my fully fleshed-out thoughts after getting the full-sized version – will I be as wowed in the long-term as I was with the short-term sample usage?

This Midnight Blue Calming Cream is a gentle, azulene-rich cream that provides comfort to rapidly calm and soothe sensitivity.

  • Intensive soothing care
  • Guaiazulene & Centella Asiatica Extract
  • After sun care
  • Calm & soothe
  • Cruelty-free, vegan-friendly

60ml / 2 fl.oz. (also available in 30ml jar packaging)

Opaque black plastic tube with a matte black twist-off cap. Honestly, I’d prefer it if the cap was a flip-top type instead because having to twist the cap open every time is a bit annoying… though, that’s just me being fussy, honestly. The product also comes with a matching sleek black plastic box.

In comparison, the original Blue Calming Cream is packaged in a 30ml jar, so this tube version is more hygienic and personally recommended. Though, the jar is definitely more instagrammable!

12 months

Apply a small amount on the affected area in the morning and evening after using toner and serum.

No artificial fragrance nor essential oils in this latest version, but it does have a noticeable “face oil” scent. Might be the Jojoba Seed Oil. Overall, quite safe for sensitive noses!

Smooth blue gel-cream texture that spreads and absorbs easily into the skin. There is a noticeable slip to the cream and it leaves an overall occlusive, moisturising finish.

Sensitive (prone to redness and irritation), combination-dry, acne-prone and dehydrated.

I’ve used this Klairs Midnight Blue Calming Cream for over 5 months now (as you can see from my handwritten opening/expiry date sticker) and it’s honestly one of the moisturisers I always come back to if I need something safe. In between experimenting with other skincare, I find that this cream always serves as a good soothing occlusive for my night-time routine. Though, it’s also not too heavy for even my day-time routine to be honest, and layers well under most sunscreens I’ve paired it with.

While the texture might seem thick at first, it spreads into a cooling emollient cream and absorbs into the skin without a trace. So, for those of you who hate how certain acne creams leave a noticeable white paste on your skin (including emergency calamine lotions!), you would love this blue baby for its invisible abilities!

However, if I were to nit-pick, I honestly don’t think this cream is an absolute skincare saviour for me, especially when my skin gets very sensitized and needs an instant remedy to tone down the redness within a few hours, or even overnight. But has it ever irritated my skin and caused unwanted inflammations? Nope, never!

So, is it worth it?

Yes, if you have some cash to spare or happen to see it on sale. No, if you’re expecting amazing overnight results due to the considerably hefty price tag. But as far as moisturisers go, this is a very safe option for sensitive, acne-prone skin types and works best for long-term skin soothing.
