Hello beautiful people on the internet, I have a question for you, do you wear sunscreen on a daily basis? I hope the answer is yes. In fact, not only does sunscreen need to be applied everyday, it should be reapplied throughout the day, especially since we’re living in this tropical country! UV rays from the sun are notorious for causing aging of the skin as well as cancer of the skin. We don’t want that right? So sun protection is a absolute necessity.
If you’re a fan of Korean skincare, I’m sure you would have heard of the brand Some By Mi. In this entry, I would like to share my thoughts on this suncream by Some By Mi that I tried out recently.
What it claims:
– safe sunscreen for sensitive skin
– highest SPF and PA+ rating in Korea
– smooth and quick-dry solution
– triple function: UV Ray Protection, Whitening, Anti-wrinkle.
Water, Cetyl Ethylhexanoate, Butylene Glycol, Glycerin, Dipropylene Glycol, Zinc Oxide, Silica, 1,2-Hexanediol, Niacinamide, Polyglyceryl-3 Methylglucose Distearate, Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree) Leaf Water, Titanium Dioxide(CI 77891), Sodium Polyacryloyldimethyl Taurate, Cetearyl Olivate, Sorbitan Olivate, Stearic Acid, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Peel Oil, Lauroyl Lysine, Disodium EDTA, Acrylates/C10-30 lkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree) Leaf Oil Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Oil, Adenosine, Centella Asiatica Extract, Artemisia Vulgaris Extract, Caprylyl Glycol, Madecassoside, Asiaticoside, Asiatic Acid, Madecassic Acid
Key Ingredients worth highlighting includes:
- Butylene Glycol – a humectant that helps to draw water into the skin
- Glycerin- a great moisturizing ingredient
- Zinc Oxide – a physical sunscreen agent, one of the greatest broad spectrum of protection against UVB, UVA II, UVA I.
- Niacinamide – skin brightening, anti aging, anti acne, just to name a few. Niacinamide is definitely one of the best skincare ingredient out there!
- Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree) Leaf Water – anti acne, anti microbial/ anti bacterial, also one of my favourite skincare ingredient!
- Titanium Dioxide – similar to zinc oxide, it’s one of the more elite sunscreen agent available
Although this sunscreen is also advertised for containing cica, it’s not as high on the ingredient list as I would like it to be (i put it in italics in the ingredient list), so I am not including it in my list.
How to use:
After skincare routine, apply an even layer onto the skin before going out into the sun. It can be used all over the face and body.
The sunscreen comes out quite smoothly out the tube, it’s quite easy to control how much you would like to dispense.
There is a mild lavendar scent, which doesn’t bother me, but if you’re sensitive to it, you might want to avoid this sunscreen.
It has a creamy texture that glides on the skin rather easily, so not much rubbing is required to put it on.
Since it is a mineral sunscreen, I’m not entirely surprised when a slight white cast is left on my skin. If you have fairer complexion, I think the white cast would be less noticeable, however, it might not be suitable for darker skin tones.
To be completely honest, i have mixed feelings about this sunscreen. I really want to like it because it has a pretty good ingredient list. However, the main reason that’s holding me back from repurchasing would be pilling.
Pilling is the flaking/balling up of products on the skin surface because it doesn’t really soak in.
I find little globs of product appearing throughout the day whenever I have thicker layer of skincare (toner, 2 layers of serum, and a moisturizer) underneath the sunscreen. It’s almost impossible for me to reapply after a few hours because it clumps up whenever I try to reapply.
However, I’ve read plenty of reviews online and a majority of them didn’t face this issue and rated this sunscreen a 5/5. So maybe this sunscreen is just not compatible with my current skincare routine, but if i were to switch my skincare routine in future and see an improvement, i’ll update!
